Cherry Lodge Easter Fair – an excellent event

The Cherry Lodge Cancer Care 2018 Easter Fair was held on Saturday 28th March at St James church, East Barnet and, as eggspected, this was an excellent seasonal event. The Fair was officially opened at 11am by children from Livingstone Primary School, who sang beautifully under the guidance of their teacher Rhianna F.. There was then plenty else to keep everyone interested.

Tina, our event coordinator, had attracted some very exciting new stalls to the venue and this meant that the choice of gifts and other goods on sale was very extensive. Attractive items included exquisite glass ornaments, hand-made cards, and truly delightful small toys all in their own bags (photo 4, below). Also very popular were our knitting group’s contribution of chickens and ducklings, each containing its own chocolate egg,

The weather wasn’t quite warm enough to have the lovely plant stall outside this year but it was easy to find in its own room by the entrance. On entering the Fair, numerous visitors bought raffle tickets for the beautiful Easter Egg (photo 1, below), donated by Rose W and made by The Chocolate Shop, Cockfosters. It was nice that it was won by Julie, a member of Cherry Lodge, but unfortunately she was not there at the draw to pose with her win.

Loretta repeated last year’s success and ran a very busy, creative activity stall for the younger visitors (photo 7), whereas Wendy, Cherry Lodge’s always popular face painter, produced some amazing results, including a very striking Easter bunny (photo 6). There were also tombola stalls for adults and children (photo 11). Our final photo shows our cheerful Easter Bunny inside the Fair, having previously stood with his minder outside Sainsbury’s to encourage passers by to come our event.

Special thanks must go to the four volunteers who organised, cooked and baked for the Fair as well as ran the cafe and kept the area clean and tidy. The many cakes, sausage rolls, cheese puffs and two different soups proved so popular that there was virtually nothing left at the end of the afternoon!

So, once again, this was an enjoyable and friendly event, with plenty to keep the younger visitors busy (including an Easter egg hunt). These Fairs raise awareness of Cherry Lodge’s importance in the community but they also raise much needed funds for our services.

Thanks to all who helped in whatever way to make this such a successful Fair – and thank you also to everyone who attended.
