Sponsored Easter Walk and Talk 2024

Supporters of Cherry Lodge Cancer Care returned to Oak Hill Park, Barnet on Sunday 24th March 2024 for our annual sponsored Easter Walk. This year’s Walk ‘n’ Talk event proved very popular, with over 30 people taking part and helping raise money to help fund CL’s much appreciated information and support services.

Thankfully the weather stayed fine and the path taken through this lovely park was dry despite weeks of rain. The walkers, accompanied by CL’s delightful outreach nurse, Kirsty, chatted as they walked, enjoying each other’s company and sharing experiences. The trees were beautiful with their springtime foliage and there were still a few temporary small ‘lakes’ in grassy areas, with ducks in residence.

Completing the circuit was no mean feat for some of the walkers – and we applaud them. One walker, Annys (CL volunteer, assistant shop manager and now a member) commented that this was the furthest she had walked since starting her cancer treatment. It transpired that she had done even better than she thought, finding out only afterwards that the course was one mile not one kilometre long! Everyone who completed the walk was awarded a medal – and a banana! – by CL founder Margaret, who has led the walk in previous years.

After the walk, people gathered to socialise and to support Cherry Lodge further by buying very attractive goods from the two Easter-themed tables. Brightly coloured woollen chicks and rabbits with a chocolate egg at their centre were among the best sellers. These were knitted by CL coffee morning attendees, who, from the end of May, will be getting together monthly as members of a new CL knitting group. Pots of primulas added a splash of colour and sold very well. Also very popular were volunteer Bobbi’s cupcakes – in fact they were so popular that one unfortunate purchaser lost her cupcake, paper and all, to a large labrador she thought was simply interested in a snuggle. As previously, the musical accompaniment of volunteer Colton Clarke (CL’s answer to Elvis and Johnny Cash) was much appreciated.

Thank you very much indeed to everyone who helped put on this event, everyone who took part in the walk, and everyone who sponsored a walker or bought merchandise. You can sponsor walkers, including Annys, using the Enthuse donation form on this website. The total amount of money raised will be added here when we know it.
