Blue Hills Open Garden

The weather was not perfect on Sunday 4th June 2017 but it was good enough for around 150 supporters of Cherry Lodge Cancer Care to take up Anne Bickel’s invitation to look around her wonderful garden in Arkley. The Blue Hills Garden Open Day was a great success, raising a good sum of money to help fund Cherry Lodge’s services.

This open garden event also proved to be a very enjoyable way of spending the afternoon. The Blue Hills garden is splendid, with huge, beautiful mature trees, flowering shrubs, well kept lawns, flower beds, a pond with giant carp, a lake with a boat, bridges, water lilies and yellow irises, a rockery, thatched summer houses and some very impressive garden urns and ornaments.

After (or even before) taking a leisurely stroll around the garden, visitors were able to sit at tables by the outdoor swimming pool to enjoy tea and delicious cakes served by cheerful Cherry Lodge volunteers in the very convenient poolside kitchen. For a bit of fun and to raise extra money for Cherry Lodge, there were two tombola stalls with some attractive prizes. There was also a good selection of garden plants and herbs on sale.

Thank you very much indeed to Anne and to everyone else involved in putting on this very enjoyable day. Thank you, too, to everyone who attended and so helped boost Cherry Lodge’s funds.
