Ladies’ Lunch with Cathy Martin

The Ladies’ Lunch held by Cherry Lodge Cancer Care on Tuesday 11th June 2019 was, as expected, a great success. The event was attended by 67 ladies, who spent a very enjoyable afternoon in the splendid surroundings of Old Fold Manor Golf Club, Hadley Green.

On arrival, guests were given a complimentary glass of Pimms (or non alcoholic alternative) and then spent time chatting and mingling in the bar, lounge and outdoors. Among those attending was a group from BNI (Business Network International), including Cherry Lodge volunteer coordinator, Yvonne, who is a network member (see photo 2, below). The MC and toastmaster for the day was James Higgs, himself a speaker at a previous Cherry Lodge Ladies Lunch. This time, the after lunch speaker was health and nutrition guru Cathy Martin (seen in our photographs in a very eye-catching green outfit).

As always, the lunch was delicious and well presented. There was also musical entertainment from Paul Jaffa, resident pianist at The West Lodge Park Hotel, Hadley Wood, who gave his services free of charge and was happy to respond to audience requests. Raffle tickets sold very well and raised £430. The ‘left right game’, led by James, provided a bit of fun, with winners at each table receiving a tube of Smarties.

The highlight of the day for most people was Cathy’s inspirational talk on the subject of ‘weight reduction, perseverance and learning to love who you are’. Cathy shared details of her personal story, starting with being bullied at school for being overweight. Her health and fitness journey started 10 years ago when she was a size 24. Cathy was able to lose her excess weight and keep it off through diet and exercise. She now regularly shares her experience and supports others on their journey. After the talk Cathy answered questions from the audience and also signed copies of her cookery book, which were on sale at the event, with all profits given to Cherry Lodge.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this such a successful event, raising in the region of £1800 to help Cherry Lodge Cancer Care continue to provide its many cancer information and support services completely free of charge.
