London Triathlon 2015 – well done Tim!

Congratulations and a big thank you are due to Timothy Platt for taking part in the 2015 AJ Bell London Triathlon on Saturday 8th August 2015 to raise money for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care.

This iconic triathlon, held over two days, attracts more than 13,000 triathletes and 30,000 spectators each year. Tim completed the Men’s Sprint event, which comprises a 750m swim in the historic Royal Victoria Dock followed by a 20k bike ride and a 5k run on closed roads. The start, transitions and finish all take place inside the Excel Exhibition Centre.

Tim chose to raise money for Cherry Lodge in appreciation of the help given to his partner Kerry after she was diagnosed with breast cancer. In Tim’s words: “The support from Cherry Lodge was invaluable during this time, providing free help with massage, counselling, acupuncture and other services. She is now clear of cancer four years after the original diagnosis. Family life carries on and the children appear happy and relaxed after the traumatic period a few years ago.”

In his email to Cherry Lodge on the day after the event, Tim wrote: “I did it! Was pretty nervous beforehand, so swim leg wasn’t great. Took a very wide line to avoid the crowds, even bumping into a safety canoe! When on dry land it was much better, so the cycle and run weren’t a problem. The day itself was fantastic. Organisation and volunteers were superb and the weather was brilliant. I was weary this morning, but cheered by a result of 212th of 1730 finishers, with time of 01:28:57. I am definitely going to have another crack at a triathlon now.”

Tim’s JustGiving page will remain open for a month after the event. By 18th August his total from online and offline fundraising was approximately £1,500. This is a great achievement. Thank you again to Tim and all his sponsors – your support of Cherry Lodge will really make a difference.
