On Sunday 6th July 2025, Cherry Lodge Cancer Care supporters again had the opportunity to swim in the fabulous pool at QE Boys’ School, Barnet. By seeking sponsorship, they could also raise money to help fund Cherry Lodge’s many services for local people affected by cancer. The event was a great success on all counts – good exercise, a memorable experience, and very rewarding (total expected to reach £3,600). Thank you very much indeed to the school for letting us use their wonderful facility, to Tina for organising the event and to volunteers Margaret and Freddy for signing people in, counting and recording lengths, and handing out water, fruit and medals.
Ahead of the event, participants were invited to set their own targets: how many 25m lengths could they swim within (or near) the two-hour time limit? As well as raising a lot of money, all the swimmers successfully completed their target distance. Two of them, James and Tabitha, each swam 200 lengths (5,000m = 3.1 miles). Sheila, who works in the CL shop, swam 100 lengths; Sarah swam 80 lengths and CL therapist Gaynor swam 40 lengths. The Woods family relay team (father Alex and sons Charlie and Felix, supported by mother Ann-Marie) together completed their 100 length target. Also pleased with her performance was long-time CL supporter Lucy (who reminded us that she had won 1st prize in the 2015 CL Annual Raffle – a wonderful trip to Bruges!).
There is still time to sponsor our swimmers. Four of them have set up fundraising pages on Enthuse, which can be accessed by selecting their names in blue, below:
A special thank you is given to James and his supporters for raising in excess of £1,000. To sponsor other swimmers, please contact them directly or consult Tina.
