New Year Party for Cherry Lodge Volunteers

In previous years, Cherry Lodge Cancer Care has put on a Christmas Party as a thank you to our many volunteers. This year, it was decided instead to hold the party in the New Year, so marking the start of a new decade and giving people something to look forward to after the pre-Christmas rush.

Around 40 people turned out on a cold but dry evening to attend what was a very enjoyable party, held at Howard House on Monday 20th January 2020. There was plenty of food and drink on offer and volunteers had a great opportunity to meet old friends and make new acquaintances who help Cherry Lodge in so many different ways. Without the support of volunteers it would be imposssible for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care to provide its much needed information and support services free of charge for people affected by cancer. Among the guests were admin helpers, receptionists, therapists, befrienders, fundraisers and shop helpers – so there was plenty for everyone to chat about.

Cherry Lodge chairman, Margaret, gave a short speech of thanks to everyone for their support. She also reminded us that this year Cherry Lodge Cancer Care will be 25 years old, which is surely a good reason for another celebration!

As is customary, there was then a raffle draw (with each person having been given a free raffle ticket on arrival). When the first two prizes went to Renie and Rose, Ruth hoped that the next winner’s name might also begin with an R – but this was not to be! The other two winners were Sue and June.

Thanks are extended here to all volunteers who weren’t able to attend, and also to Yvonne, Kirsty, Tina and Lorraine and everyone else who helped make this such a very happy evening.
