Supporters of Cherry Lodge Cancer Care returned to Totteridge Cricket Club on Saturday 18th April 2026 to enjoy top-class comedy acts while raising much needed money to help fund CL’s many services for local people affected by cancer. This was a very welcome opportunity to ‘Laugh out Loud’ in challenging times – and all tickets were sold well ahead of the event.
For nearly three hours, the audience was treated to a very varied and hugely enjoyable programme put together and hosted by Sion James of Collywobblers Comedy Club. Sion, a loyal supporter of Cherry Lodge, can always be relied on to help people enjoy themselves, getting the evening off to a good start with his gentle teasing. Six well-chosen, highly proficient comedians would then take the stage.
First up was a high-energy performance from endearing young comedian Callum Mackenzie, which ended with the brilliant foodie pun headline ‘gnocci on heaven’s door’. There was then an interval to buy more drinks and chat with friends, followed by three shorter acts. Sallyann Fellowes, a ‘self-diagnosed weirdo’, shared hilarious observations from an autistic point of view. The laid-back style of Johnny CT is perfect for his entertaining observations on social differences, black and white, rich and not so rich. Maggs McHugh, star of BBC’s ‘Naked Lunch’, delivered hard-hitting almost cruel comments in the gentlest manner imaginable.
Two acts followed the second interval. A late entry to the programme was up-and-coming comedian Danny Field, whose ‘F’ at GCSE definitely was not an abbreviation for ‘Fail’. The final act of the evening was from established star Sara Barron, as seen on BBC’s ‘Live at the Apollo’. Conscious that she is ‘soon to be 47’, Sara found humour looking back at a failed romance in her twenties and forward to a disturbing old age.
A well supported raffle for a tableful of very good prizes raised extra money for Cherry Lodge. The evening ended with a warm vote of thanks from CL events coordinator, Tina, to everyone involved in making this such a very successful evening. Special thanks now go to Sion, all the comedians, Totteridge Cricket Club, CL volunteers Kirsty, Bobbi and Sarah – and also to Tina.
