Singers return to Sainsbury’s, Hendon

The Cherry Lodge Singers last sang at Sainsbury’s Superstore, Hendon in December 2014, when their programme consisted mainly of Christmas numbers. With the arrival of Spring, it was clearly time for the Singers to return to Hendon on Friday 24th April 2015 to share a new programme, to provide musical entertainment for the shoppers and to raise funds for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care.

The new programme was uplifting and most enjoyable, with a selection of ever popular Rodgers and Hammerstein songs including ‘Oh, What a Beautiful Morning’ (which it was), ‘Some Enchanted Evening’ (which it was not) and ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’. We were also treated to Irving Berlin’s ‘You’re Just in Love’, a ‘Lullaby Rag’, a very tuneful song from Gilbert and Sullivan’s ‘Princess Ida’ and a glorious Ghanaian round, called ‘Tue Tue’. Perhaps the highlight was Abba’s ‘I have a Dream’, the very spiritual words and lilting tune of which led as usual to a fair amount of audience participation.

A big thank you to Sainsbury’s, Hendon for making us their Charity of the Year, for their ongoing support of Cherry Lodge and for facilitating this very enjoyable fund-raising performance by the Cherry Lodge Singers. The total raised was an excellent £167.
