The Spring into Soul Ball, held at the Double Tree by Hilton Borehamwood on Saturday 21st March 2026, was very much enjoyed by the 130 guests who gathered to have a fabulous evening and raise money for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care. Thank you to CL events coordinator Tina and her team of volunteers for organising such a successful event. Master of ceremonies for the evening was comedian Ben Obonjo.
The room looked lovely, with tables decorated with yellow tulips and gypsophila donated and arranged during the afternoon by volunteer Iris Challis. Also very eyecatching was the Spring-themed tombola set up by Kim and Annys. MC Ben invited guests to take their seats, welcomed them, gave an outline of the evening and introduced Sarah Armitage, co-chair of Cherry Lodge and Tina, who thanked all the volunteers, Summer Soulstice, the Hilton trustees and all supporters. Richard Weekes of Summer Soulstice then gave a short speech and read out Dave James’s speech, explaining that there would be no Summer Soulstice event this summer but they will be back in 2027 alongside Cherry Lodge. All money from the ball will go directly to Cherry Lodge Cancer Care to enable us to support local people affected by cancer.
The delicious meal was efficiently served by young, skilled hotel staff, starting with the first two courses. There was then a pause in dining while MC Ben led the live auction, which raised a very impressive £2,000. Among the very enticing lots, all generously donated by local businesses and individuals, were a three-night stay in North Norfolk, beauty sessions and products, sports club memberships, sports memorabilia, and music lessons. Dessert was then served, followed by tea, coffee and mints.
It was then time for music and dancing, starting with a great live performance by guest soul vocalist Shelton Dixon, and continuing until late with lively sets from Jamie F (of Summer Soulstice) and Matt Charles (of Arkley Cha Nights).
Thank you to everyone involved in helping make this such a very enjoyable and successful evening, raising a very valuable amount of money for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care (total to be added here soon).
