More than 80 supporters of Cherry Lodge Cancer Care were delighted to take part in our Festive Quiz Night held at St Peter’s Church Hall, East Barnet on Saturday 8th December 2025. This was our first ‘in person’ quiz since before Covid interrupted what had previously been a very successful regular event on the CL calendar. It was great to be back and the well-tested formula proved as enjoyable and successful as previously. Thank you to Tina and her team of volunteers for all their hard work needed to make sure that this large event ran so smoothly.
We were fortunate once again to benefit from the impressive quiz setting and organisational skills of the Southon family: David the Quiz Master, ably assisted by his wife Maureen and daughter Dawn. Very many thanks to the three of you for running such an excellent show. We were treated to 10 interesting rounds, covering a good range of topics, several with a Christmas theme. Different team members had a chance to shine tackling questions on Nature, Children’s TV (giving parents and grandparents a considerable advantage), Christmas knowledge (two rounds), Money, Mathematics, Sport, Desserts (including figgy pudding), and two general knowledge rounds, entitled Ups and Downs’ and ‘Pot Luck’. There were also table rounds, with photos of celebrities and cartoon animals to be identified during the course of the evening.
As always team fortunes were mixed, with final totals for the nine tables ranging from a magnificent high of 137 (table 9), followed by 130 (table 2), down to lows of 106 (tables 7 and 8) and 103 (table 3). As is customary at CL quizzes, the winners won something good to eat (in this case Fox’s Festive Favourites) while those who finished last received toilet rolls. There were also raffle prizes to be won, including a spendid basket of fruit.
Following on from the success of this event, it is very much hoped that Quiz Nights will once again become a regular CL fundraising event.
