News, Stories, Events and Services

Thank you to editor Helen Renshaw, designer Marcus Kirby and everyone else who contributed to this lively and interesting Newsletter.

This issue leads with an invitation to ‘Meet Caroline’ Stevens, who joined the Cherry Lodge team in June 2025, taking on the important role of Volunteer Coordinator. Caroline describes herself as a real people person, who knows from experience the difference volunteering makes on both sides. Volunteering is good for you!

Our ‘Big Thank You’ features flautist Janet Marsh, a member of the Serafini baroque quartet, who organised a fundraising pop-up Coffee House concert to thank Cherry Lodge for the support she has received since being diagnosed with cancer two years ago. Thank you too to our five 2025 London Marathon runners, who between them raised over £11,000 for us.

Under the heading ‘What Cherry Lodge means to me’, retired social worker David Lewis-Burry describes his first experience of Cherry Lodge after being diagnosed with prostate cancer over Christmas 2021. He arrived terrified but ‘having someone to talk to in an atmosphere of calm, kindness and professionalism helped immensely’. Since then ‘it’s been terribly important for me to know that Cherry Lodge is ‘always there, in the background, if we need it’.

This issue’s ‘Cherry Lodge Champion’ is Jane Say, who raised almost £4,000 for us by walking 177 miles along the Camino Way from Porto to Santiago de Compostela. She describes her walk as a ‘physical, emotional and spiritual journey’ that gave her space to reflect on her cancer journey. She describes Cherry Lodge as a lifeline and thanks us and others, including her sponsors, for their support.

You will also find an interesting selection of news snippets, plus information about upcoming Fundraising Events and details about CL’s wide range of services.

If you have any Cherry Lodge stories you would like to share – especially if you are a member, volunteer or donor – please contact Helen on helen.renshaw22@gmail.com.
