It is well known that yoga can promote good health. This is achieved through a combination of simple exercises and breathing techniques, which together produce calmness and peace of mind. This in turn allows the body to repair and regenerate itself.

At Cherry Lodge, with the expertise of our qualified yoga teacher, we have worked out a simple but effective technique of yoga therapy. By using the applied principles of the age-old system of yoga, we help our members to help themselves. The movements we use are simple and not taxing, and can be performed while sitting down.

Yoga is suitable for people of all ages and no experience is required to attend our sessions. When necessary, an Individual programme can be devised to meet particular needs.

How can Yoga help?

Yoga brings benefits by:

  • Creating a more flexible, healthy body
  • Relieving anxiety and tension
  • Improving sleeping patterns
  • Reducing stress
  • Improving concentration and clarity
  • Increasing energy levels

What is involved in a Yoga session?

The one hour session consists of performing simple movements that involve all of the joints in the body. Many of these movements can be performed sitting on a chair if necessary. Stalwart members do still sit on the floor – in the traditional yoga way.

We also teach simple breathing techniques, which have a very beneficial calming effect and can bring relief from tension and anxiety. We finish the lesson with a 15-minute relaxation exercise, which is easy to remember and enables people to repeat the peaceful experience in their own home.

Fridays: 12.30 to 1.30 at St Mark’s Church Hall, Potters Road, Barnet, EN5 5HY
