Summer Soulstice 2008
The Summer Soulstice was a great event organised by a group of friends in memory of Andy Weekes, who sadly died in America from cancer. The group live locally and know of the work of Cherry Lodge and this is why for two years now Cherry Lodge has been the beneficiary of this event. The Summer Soulstice which took place on Saturday 21st June at Old Elizabethan's Playing Fields in Barnet raised an amazing £7,000 for Cherry Lodge.
Some 1,300 happy punters turned out to enjoy a full day of soulful music, food, drink, fun and friendship. Despite the menacing clouds and a couple of brief showers, nothing dampened the spirits of everyone who was present on Saturday.
Our heartfelt thanks goes out to all who supported us on the day, including all the DJ's, artists, sound crew, bar staff, caterers, volunteers and everybody that turned up to party throughout the day. The sound was that good, we were even heard by the Big Brother house in Elstree just a couple of miles away with the housemates mentioning they could hear loud music in the distance!
But the very good news is, it looks like we've hit our 7,000 target we aimed to raise for Cherry Lodge Cancer Care adding to the £5.5k raised at Summer Soulstice 1! We're now looking forward to doing it all again next year for Summer Soulstice 3 and we'll keep you in the loop as to how this shapes up, via monthly email updates, our website and our jolly little Facebook group.
In the meantime, we've put together a little 5 minute musical montage of Saturday's Soulstice on YouTube for you all to enjoy... And for those of you who couldn't make it and still want to send in a donation, you can do so at the Justgiving site.
See you for Summer Soulstice 3? Then keep Saturday 20th June 2009 free in the diary...
