A Taste of the Caribbean

Over the years, Myra and Norman Goldberg have gained a well-deserved reputation for being brilliant party hosts. They are also committed supporters of Cherry Lodge Cancer Care and their big annual fundraising events have raised a substantial amount of money for us. Not surprisingly, there were plenty of takers for their invitation to join them for ‘A Taste of the Caribbean’ on Saturday 7th July 2018.

The setting was perfect – Myra and Norman’s beautiful home and garden on a lovely summer’s evening in the middle of a heatwave. Clothing choices reinforced the theme – lightweight ‘cruise wear’, bold patterns and bright colours. There was even a prize for the best costume – you might be able to pick out a a pirate from the Caribbean in one of the photos below. Notice too the garden statue’s special Jamaican headwear.

Guests were welcomed with a rum punch and other drinks were available throughout the evening. Panda Berry Caribbean Restaurant in North Finchley provided authentic Caribbean food – including jerk chicken, rice and peas, curried goat, chickpea curry plus green salad and coleslaw. For dessert there was a choice of fresh fruit and delicious home-made cakes (served by brightly dressed Cherry Lodge volunteers, see photo 8 below). The next photo shows the raffle table, laden with some very tempting prizes.

Great music for dancing was provided by Matt C of MegaSounds and a dance troupe – the Zimmerates – put on two routines. Guests all joined in the fun and danced to reggae, calypso, soca, samba and steel band music. Dancing the conga through the house and garden was a highlight for many (see photos).

Thank you very much indeed from Cherry Lodge Cancer Care to Myra and Norman and all the hardworking volunteers who helped make this event such a success. Thank you also to all the people who attended to have some fun and raise money to help fund Cherry Lodge’s much needed cancer information and support services.
